How it started…

Ethically stitched was founded in Autumn 2025 by me, Hannah, after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sustainable Development from the University of the Highlands and Islands. I’ve been sewing for almost as long as I can remember, and wanted to combine my love of the craft with my ambition to make ethical, eco-friendly living more accessible. 

A different way of working

Ethically stitched aims to reduce textile waste. Unlike many brands, sustainability isn't an afterthought - it's at the heart of the business. The goal is not just to limit negative impacts on the planet, it's to have a positive impact through keeping materials out of landfill while also reducing the need for new materials to be manufactured.

Why bother?

The many problems caused by fast fashion and textile waste can feel like they are far too big for someone like me to be able to make any real difference. But my motivation for caring about these issues is rooted in my faith in Christ. Whether things get better or worse in my lifetime, I am convinced that one day all the social and environmental problems facing our world will no longer exist — not because of political or technological solutions, but because Christ is coming back and will make everything right. This hope is what frees me to act, not out of fear but out of love for God, for people and for all that God has created.

A change in direction

Ethically Stitched began as a website selling handbags and accessories which I handmade from carefully-sourced pre-owned and upcycled materials. Soon, my business will be changing direction to focus on growing my range of zero waste sewing patterns and on something exciting I’m currently working on!
